January 10, 2010 Game.  The Junior C Dunnville Terriers outran the Caledonia Corvairs Sunday, scoring a 7-6 victory after a shootout to determine the outcome of the game. That win came after a resounding 6-0 defeat at the hands of the Grimsby Peach Kings Friday at home.

Dunnville’s play in the first period had them first out of the gate to score two goals, including Taylor Schwoob’s just 42 seconds into the game, assisted by Chris Furneaux and Jared Murphy. Duncan Minor made it 2-0 for Dunnville just after the three-minute mark on an unassisted goal before Caledonia came back to tie the game in the last half of the first, with Kyle Draper’s unassisted goal and Jaccob DeNobriga’s assisted by Matt Charbonneau 14:30 into the first frame.

With the teams tied at two going into the second, Caledonia was determined to open up a lead, and did so with Draper scoring his second goal of the match assisted by Stefan Scione 27 seconds into the period. The team followed that up with a second consecutive goal from Jamie Williams assisted by Scott Mann 6:46 into the second, bringing the score to 4-2 before Minor took a feed from captain Dan Minor at the 13:59 mark to close the gap to a one-goal deficit.

The third period was an exciting one for both teams as it was a high-scoring 20 minutes full of action. Dan and Duncan Minor struck again just 19 seconds in, with Dan hitting net on a feed from Duncan and Jason Dear. Caledonia’s Scott Mann wasn’t to be deterred, slipping one through Dunnville goalie Tyler Gilbertson 10 seconds later on an assist from Charbonneau and Jamie Williams.

Draper scored his second of the game just after the one-minute mark on an assist from Scione and Brent Lowry. With the score at 6-4, the Terriers were determined not to take another loss and put pressure on Caledonia in the next few minutes of the game to tie it 6-6, with Furneaux netting one on an assist from Dustin Demoe and Dan Minor’s second of the game (again assisted by Duncan Minor and Dustin Demoe) 8:51 seconds in.

Regulation time came and went with the tie unbroken and overtime play was scoreless.

In the shootout, Dunnville’s Dan Minor was the single scorer of both teams and brought the Terriers to a 7-6 hard-won victory.

Dunnville’s shots on goal were much improved from Friday night’s game. Only the second period presented a significant gap. Caledonia took 15 shots at Dunnville’s net in the first, while the Terriers aimed 11 at the Corvairs. Caledonia had 17 shots over Dunnville’s six in the second and Dunnville took the lead in shots for the first time in the third, shooting 12 while Caledonia shot 10. In OT, Caledonia had only a two-shot lead over Dunnville, shooting six to Dunnville’s four. Dunnville goalie Matt Madden took 32 shots and Tyler Gilberston finished the game, taking 16 shots. The Terriers also kept their penalty minutes in check during Sunday’s game, taking 30 minutes on eight infractions, in line with Caledonia’s 26 minutes on 10 infractions.

January 8, 2010 Game. That was in contrast to Friday’s home game, when the Terriers more than doubled the Peach Kings in penalty minutes, racking up 80 minutes on 18 infractions where Grimsby took only 32 on 12 infractions. Dunnville took less than half as many shots as their opponent, shooting only 16 to Dunnville’s 37.

Grimsby kicked off the scoring just before the halfway mark of the first and didn’t let up for the rest of the game, with David Mastrandrea scoring an unassisted shorthanded goal before the period came to a close. In the first five minutes of the second, Grimsby made it 4-0 before Jamie Howard scored a powerplay goal assisted by Stevan Manojlovic to end the period and a powerplay goal from Robert Wormald at 6:48 of the third to end the game, assisted by Mastrandrea and Kyle Fraser.
