December 23, 2009.  The Dunnville Terriers weren’t able to stay in the win column this week against Chippawa. The team put forth an energized effort with more elements of their team game shining through but couldn’t muster enough offense to stay competitive through three periods of play.

Chippawa was the first team to get on the board at 13:41 of the first period during a power-play. The two teams played most of the first period in Dunnville’s end with Chippawa jumping all over every puck and Terriers player with bodychecks.  Chippawa book-ended the period with another goal with 2:21 left on a shorthanded rush.  Dunnville, while up a man in the last few minutes of the frame, turned the puck over and allowed Chippawa to turn up ice and score.  The first period ended with Dunnville down by two goals.

The second period started virtually the same as the first with Chippawa getting an early marker on another power-play at 12:05. The Terriers responded quickly however when Dunnville’s number 25, Mitch Barnes, took a feed from teammates Chris Furneaux, number 15, and Nolan Speakman, number four, and potted the puck behind Chippawa’s net-minder, pulling his team back into the contest.

Dunnville gathered energy from the goal and picked up the pace to their game for the remainder of the period. The teams carried the three to one score into the dressing rooms and the third period.

The third and final frame started fast with both teams getting chances early. Chippawa struck first at 15:14 when Gilbertson let in the fourth goal against of the night putting Dunnville behind the eight ball. The Terriers added a late marker but it was too little too late to mount a come-back.  The final score was four to two for Chippawa.

The Terriers next home game comes on Friday Jan. 8, 2010 when Grimsby pays Dunnville a visit.

Also, the Terriers were involved in a charity drive for the less fortunate this year.
