Terriers Drop The Bone Against Corvairs
December 11, 2009. The development plan was still in motion in Caledonia on Friday, December 4. Despite a close encounter, the underdogs had to limp home after an unfortunate winning goal late in the third caught everyone, including the referees, off guard. The 7-6 win came from a mishap when the officials and players with the new hurry up rule for face-offs dropped the puck and began the play before the goalie was ready and in position.
Dunnville won the draw but lost the game as the deciding goal slid by the unsuspecting netminder into the net. The goal held up to win the two points and demoralize the Terriers and slow up the development plan. Without the hurry up face-off in the lower divisions of hockey, we could sell more hotdogs and the communities would be more solvent at the box office.
Forget the sour grapes. Dunnville will have to cut down the shorthanded goals against and last minute goals in order to come ahead and keep the progression moving forward.
The rivalry between the Terriers and the Corvairs is ramping up as the season progresses. It was a bit of a nasty affair with each team parading to the sinbin with Dunnville taking 24 minors and 3 majors, while Caledonia was assessed 32 minors and sent to the showers with 4 majors. The 7-6 game padded the stats for players on both teams. Tanner McGowan led the dogs with a five point evening with 1 goal and 4 helpers. The two Minor boys chipped in with 3 points each. Dan’s three assists and Duncan’s goal and two assists kept the game within reach for the Terriers. Taylor Schwoob continues to contribute on a regular basis with 1 goal and an assist and newcomer Connor Harvey chipped in 1 marker. Corey Turner rounded out the scoring for the Terriers with assists going to Curtis Naylor and Jarrod Murphy.
The scoring for Caledonia was shared, with 2 goals from Paul Memmolo, 1 goal and 1 assist each from Nick Drake, Stefan Scione, and Kyle Buttenham.
Single tallys for Corvairs were earned by Ian Caldwell and Jacob DeNobriga. Scott Mann added to the cause with three helpers with Jesse Millar and Matt Charbonneau one each. The rivalry continues to bring exciting hockey to the local arenas.
