December 9, 2009.  The Terriers woeful season is past weekend as they played the Grimsby Peach Kings in league play last Sunday at the Dunnville arena.  Dunnville played a decent game but allowed three early goals which led to their eventual lose in the game. The peach Kings won by a final score of 6 to 2.

The first period was a tight checking game with Dunnville getting the slight edge on physical play. The Peach Kings played to their strengths skating hard and fast and getting past the Terriers defense for a few quality chances.

The three goals against all came as a result of defensive zone breakdowns and giveaways on the rush.  Dunnville took the three-goal deficit into the locker room at the first intermission.

The Terriers came out with a chip on their shoulder for the start of the second period and played some of their best hockey of the year. That hard play culminated in a goal by Terriers number 21, Dan Minor, at 15:06 of the second less than five minutes into the frame. Terriers number 16, Duncan minor, and number 3, Jarrod Murphy, collected assists on the play.

The Terriers momentum was cut short however as 1:30 later the Peach Kings scored again to restore their three goal lead. The Kings scored again with 6:08 left in the period to push their lead to four going into the final stanza.

Dunnville skated hard for the start of the third period, looking determined to get back into the contest.  Their hard play ended up working against them as they took a minor penalty approximately five minutes in.

The Terriers worked their penalty kill well and even managed to push the puck into the offensive zone for a few chances. At 14:04 of the third Terriers number 8, Jason Dear, took a feed from number 21, Dan Minor and potted the shorthanded marker to get his team back in the game.

Dunnville’s comeback was short-lived however as Grimsby went on and scored on their next power-play at the 11 minute mark.

Dunnville was unable to muster any more offense in the game. The final score was 6 to 2 for the Peach Kings.
